By utilizing several different methods and techniques of measuring the porous structure of different carbon-based materials, NovoCarbon seeks to create a technological advantage within its industry and market. The Company uses the latest development in porous, carbon and graphite materials to gain a better understanding of the high-end usage of the electrode material in batteries, fuel cells and supercapacitors. We believe NovoCarbon’s ability to distinguish the specific material for the electrochemical testing process can create an advantage by being able to recommend materials for different application based on the data generated.

Shawn Severson: First, I would like to thank you Dr. Borovsky, for taking the time to speak with us today. Last time we spoke with NovoCarbon we discussed your corporate structure and organization. Today’s focus will be on your technology and science platform. However, before we get started, could you provide us with a brief introduction of yourself?

Dr. Gershon Borovsky: Sure, Shawn. I am Gershon Borovsky and I work as the Chief Science Officer at NovoCarbon Incorporated.  I joined NovoCarbon in early 2018 and my main goal and task at the company is to bring science into technology, to make sure we are using the latest developments in porous material, carbon material, graphite material, to create a technological advantage.

I got my first PhD at the famous A.N. Frumkin Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry, Academy of Sciences, Soviet Union. In the second half of 20th century it was the leading electrochemistry institution in the world and not only in the Soviet Union.  After immigration, I started my postdoctoral work at the University of Leeds, but in order to complete it, I had to confirm through a special process my PhD in 1991 at the Imperial College of London.

I completed my postdoctoral work at University of Leeds and that was where I began working directly with modification of carbon-based material.  It was for a completely different purpose, however, the methods and techniques which were required actually helped me in the future, eventually leading to this position with NovoCarbon. Later, I spent many years in Israel with a private company, which was called Medis El/More Energy, Ltd.  I was working as their Chief Scientist.  At the time, we were developing very novel liquid alkaline fuel cells and my main responsibility, among others, was once again the modification of carbon materials for the purposes of particular alkaline fuel cells.

I also worked at a company called BCS Fuel Cells, Texas, United States.  This was a very important project which was co-sponsored by the US Department of Energy and Department of Defense. I was responsible for the project which was developing cold start of fuel cells. The overall purpose was based upon scientific research and was being done to prepare hydrogen air fuel cell to work under extreme low temperatures.

Finally, I worked for a private company in Wyoming, again working with the modification and improvement of carbon material for fuel cells.  So, summarizing this, I would say that starting with my PhD research and throughout my career, carbon materials, the modification and analysis of carbon material, has been the unbroken line.  My research activities, my several United States patents and patent applications are all directly connected with the same subject.
